Best Viasat deals this month

In 2024, Viasat restructured its pricing, simplifying it to a single package with pricing and download speeds that vary depending on a customer’s location. The highlights of this plan include unlimited high-speed data and no contract—meaning you can cancel at any time without having to pay an early termination fee. This new plan replaces the majority of Viasat’s offerings and is called Unleashed.

pro Unlimited high-speed data. No priority data cap

Starting at $129.99 a month, the Viasat Unleashed plan provides some of the highest value of any satellite plan in terms of data and download speed per dollar spent. Although Viasat is a bit more expensive than competitor Hughesnet, it still provides decent speeds without breaking the bank.

Best Viasat discount

With a new, simpler plan, Viasat eliminated a two-year contract and any timed discounts. You should also be aware that while you’re not locked into a contract, your monthly rate is not locked and could go up if the company decides. That makes Hughesnet the only satellite internet provider that offers a reduced price for your first year, but you’re also locked into a contract with them.

What’s the best Viasat plan?

Viasat Unleashed is the company’s flagship package, replacing several of the multiple packages it previously offered. This proves among the fastest download speeds available for satellite internet. It’s certainly not the cheapest option, but it gives you speeds that compete with many types of wired internet connection, albeit with much higher latency.

It's also a big step above Viasat's previous plans that locked you into a two-year contract and had varying tiers with data caps. Now, it's a month-to-month system that you can quit at any time. It also unlocks unlimited data, meaning you won't run into throttling by going over a data allotment. There is a soft threshold a data usage per month of 850GB, which is much more generous than what was offered before.

Viasat offers a few options for business internet plans with both unlimited and data cap options. Business plans generally cost more than residential plans, so they’re not a great choice for home internet. If you are running a business, though, features like a persistent IP address and priority connection might be worth the additional cost.

Among business plans, unlimited plans offer the best value, as metered data adds up very quickly. The metered option with a priority data cap is only available in most rural areas where the unlimited data plan isn’t available.

Viasat prices and fees

Viasat installation fees

Viasat charges up to $300 for installation, depending on a soft credit check, which gives it a higher upfront cost. Professional installation is the only option, as Viasat does not allow self-installation. Business plans do provide free installation.

Viasat equipment fees

At just $15 per month, Viasat’s equipment fees are very low, although you can pay a lifetime lease fee of $250 if you prefer. Since Viasat’s Unleashed plan includes unlimited high-speed data, you are unable to purchase additional data tokens like other providers, even if you run into the suggested limit of 850GB in month and find your speeds slowing down.

Viasat Affordable Connectivity Program

Viasat is one of the many internet providers that participated in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). Qualified households could get $30 off any Viasat plan. However, as of February 7, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will stop accepting enrollments due to a lack of funding from Congress. Without additional funds, the program will stop entirely by the end of April 2024. The FCC has signaled that it wants to program to continue, but its future is uncertain. Current households that are part of the ACP should receive written notice from their internet provider when their bill will increase.

How much Is Viasat per month?

Viasat residential plans start at $129.99. With an equipment lease, which includes your dish and modem, your total monthly bill will be $144.99 plus taxes. This is on top of an upfront installment payment that ranges from $0 to $300, depending on your credit.

Satellite internet is one of the most expensive connections around, and in many rural areas, it’s the only option available. One of Viasat’s biggest strengths is that it has a huge range of plans, from some of the cheapest satellite options to some of the most expensive. This gives rural customers the ability to weigh the pros and cons of different plans rather than settling for a one-size-fits-all solution.
